SUMMIT LEARNING/REAL PLATFORM REVIEW

As announced this Fall, in pursuit of continued improvement, Woodland Park School District will be engaging in a comprehensive external review of our practice at the middle and high school level, with a specific focus on the Summit Learning/REAL Platform. As a leader within the Woodland Park School District Community, we invite you to engage with our team for this review.

      • Jennifer Klein is the Director of Leadership Development in Aurora Public Schools. (APS) Prior to joining the APS team, she served as the Deputy Instructional Superintendent for Innovation in Denver Public Schools (DPS), where she supported new school design and school improvement efforts for innovation and charter schools.

        Jennifer developed and led the Short Cycle Assessment Network (SCAN) in DPS. The SCAN project focused on training teacher leaders and principals to engage in the effective implementation of standards-based instructional practices. As part of a cohort, participants actively engaged in the deep analysis of standards and identified expectations for student mastery.

        Klein’s expertise is grounded in practical experience. She has served as a teacher, school leader, consultant, and district leader.

        Over the past 18 years, Jennifer has been involved in designing and facilitating innovative engaging learning experiences that improve the instructional practices of educators.
      • Barbara Friedlander, a Nationally Board Certified Special education teacher, is a Learning and Achievement Specialist in Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland. Ms. Friedlander earned her undergraduate and master’s degree in special education at the University of Maryland and has earned certifications in Administrative and Supervision and Equity and Excellence in Education from McDaniel College. With over 30 years of experience in teaching and learning, Ms. Friedlander is the co-author of Powerful Writing Strategies for All Students, as well as published articles in Reading Teacher and other journals. She serves as the President of the University of Maryland College of Education Alumni Network and a member of the University of Maryland Governor's Board. Her passion for providing quality education for students Pre K-12th grade is evident through her work in coaching teachers and school leaders.
      • Dr. Heather M. Wilson is an evaluation specialist and research analyst in PreK - 12 education with an interest in contextualizing and translating data for understanding and use across audiences. For over 15 years, she’s used her skills in quantitative and qualitative research, data visualization as well as organizational development to leverage change like developing system-wide professional learning on the assessment of English language learners to the co-creation of a district-wide special education conference for families. She began her journey as a secondary special education teacher in the state of Virginia. Currently, she manages several program evaluations in a large, suburban school district.     • 3 Day Comprehensive Site Visit, including Classroom Observations; Focus Groups and Interviews of Staff, Students, Parents, and Community Members; and Engagement in the School and Community Culture
    • General Survey of Staff, Students, Parents, and Community Members
    • Review of School Policies & Procedures, School Data, Implementation Documents, Teacher Training, and Survey Results
  • When will they be in the District?
    • November 1st - 3rd

    • Strengths and opportunities for growth posted to the District website by January
  • How will the results of the review be used?
    • Strengths and opportunities for growth shared with the School Board, Leadership Team, District and School Accountability Committees, and School Shared Decision Teams to be used in future planning
      • Noted strengths will be preserved in future initiatives
      • Opportunities for growth will provide a platform for planning this Spring, with initiatives rolled out in the Fall of 2022
