Dear Summit families,

The District recently shared the news that we would be moving to an A/B rotation from November 9 - December 16 under Phase 3 High Control. It is our best hope that with this added precautionary measure, we are able to continue to keep our children, our families and our staff healthy during these unprecedented times.

In addition to staying healthy, we are committed to continue learning and growing through this experience. Students have been split into Groups A and B. We followed the district's guideline to the best of our ability in developing our group makeup. However, we also used the lens of student success and academic growth in order to build our groups. Your child may be in a different group than the one outlined by last name. I used many factors to try and build groups for your child’s maximum success. Children will be coming home today with the group that they have been assigned and the dates that they will be attending school. Here is a calendar overview:

On the days when students are in session at school, we will continue to work hard in order to provide the best educational experience and utilize our time wisely to enhance all learning opportunities. On the days when students are not in school, these will be self-directed learning (SDL) days. Teachers will be sending home some activities for students to practice skills and reinforce the lessons they learned while they were in school. We are working on ways to incorporate some additional services for students while they are home. Please watch for more specifics in communciation from your teachers as we hammer out details! Students will also have their Chromebooks so they can access See Saw or Google Classroom to get activities and/or learning websites and programs. I would also encourage students to get books and do some reading! Now is a great time to build our reading stamina! I would also like to encourage our children to do something extra around the house. Now seems like a great time to start vacuuming :)

Our students that are currently enrolled in remote learning, nothing changes for you! Continue to go to your classes and complete your assignments! Our students who have been quarantined for the last two weeks will still return to school tomorrow, Friday November 6. They will start with the A/B rotation with the peers on Monday November 9. The 2nd and 3rd graders that were moving from remote to in person, but had to stay remote due to quarantine, can come to school with their class on Friday November 6 and will move to the A/B rotation next week as well. Our preschool students are not affected by this change. The functioning of preschool will remain the same! The same is true for our Enrichment Academy students. Please continue to come on Wednesdays as scheduled.

We will send our children home on Friday with their Chromebooks and Group B will have work to get them started. No K-5 students will come to school on Monday November 9, preschool still attends. Staff will meet and solidify learning plans for our new structure. Expect to see additional communication from your teacher!

This is not ideal! This is not perfect! This is not what anyone was hoping for! But this is where we are and in true Summit fashion we will make the best of our situation! We will continue to care for our children and each other! We will focus on the positive! We will do our very best! And we will do this TOGETHER! Please let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you for your partnership, your support and your trust! Thank you for the opportunity to serve you and your family!

Respectfully yours,

Katie Rexford, Principal
