Gateway Elementary

Team Summit

Welcome to the Gateway Summit Family (Grade 5)!

Quotes from 2 Summit students:

  • Summit Learning is an amazing experience to learn and get the information I need.
  • The best thing about Summit Learning is the new Summit Learning Platform. It really is the best part because it helps us move at our own pace. Plus we get to learn Habits of Success that help throughout life.

Gateway is excited to be part of a community of more than 350 schools across the country participating in Summit Learning, and WE ARE EXCITED! All 5th grade students at Gateway will

  • have a dedicated mentor teacher that he/she will regularly (each week) meet with one-on-one, who will know him deeply and support him in setting and achieving his personal goals.
  • be engaged in projects that give hands-on experience with the real-world scenarios — like collaborating with a team, interpreting data, and presenting a persuasive argument. All projects end with a final product that students complete and their teachers score on the cognitive skill rubric. These projects could be oral presentations, writing pieces or structured discussions/debates.
  • be focusing on developing what we call “self-direction” — an invaluable skill that can be applied to any task in the adult world. Your child will learn how to set goals, make plans, and reflect on their learning.

At Gateway, we want to provide our students with an education that equips them with the skills and habits necessary for success in life — an education that supports their individual needs, aspirations, and how they learn best. We believe that Summit Learning will help us get closer to achieving our vision of providing all children with opportunities to elevate their skills as lifelong learners and leaders.

Gateway Elementary values helping students develop self-efficacy. Self-efficacy is the belief that one is ultimately in control of one's own life and the development of the accompanying skills to actualize this belief. To this end, each Alpine class works collaboratively to write a classroom goal that is customized for the school's vision and themselves. This goal is supported by a code of cooperation that guides the students' behaviors and growth throughout the year.

This year's classroom goal is "In the 5th Grade Gateway Family, we will treat others the way we want to be treated, encourage and support each other and ourselves, create new friendships, and reach to achieve our goals and greatness.

Our Summit team is here to serve you. Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information on 5th grade at Gateway.
